Good luck! It will help that she's a children's social worker and will be very qualified to deal with whatever happens.

Warwick update!
by DATA-DOG ina bethel worker recently commented that the gb's wish is for warwick to be completed 3 years from this summer.
the shortage of workers has moved the gb to even accept 50+ year old jw's as volunteers.
they are trying to get it done before the big " a" i guess.

Facebook "friend" heard a rumor
by Reopened Mind ini was surprised to get a message on facebook yesterday from a sister in a congregation i hadn't attended in 18 years.
she said she heard a rumor totallyadd and i no longer want to be jws.. funny thing is the last time i messaged her on facebook was january 2011. yes, i had let all correspondence drop with jws as we were well into our fade at the time.. but two and a half years and she wants to know if we want to be jws?
no how are you doing, miss you guys, or news of her family.

How about this?
Dear [Bitch],
It's been two and a half years since our last contact, and your only interest in sending an email now is to snoop around for a juicy rumor to spread? Or have you been officially appointed an elder and are chairman of an investigation committee?
Regardless of whether we wish to be JWs or not, we really wouldn't be able to tell the difference whether you were shunning us or not. So what is your point in contacting us now? We've been active JWs and you had no use for us, so now you want to question us to find out whether you can officially tell us that you're shunning us?
Well, we'll put your mind at ease. Regardless of our religious status, we have decided to "mark" you for being a self-righteous busybody. In case we happen to cross paths, we will make it a point to shun you so that you don't have to worry about whether you are allowed to speak to us.

JW family made contact....
by LouBelle in.....after 8 years of us being disfellowshipped.
the made contact through my aunt who is still 'in' - as in she has faded but is not disfellowshipped and will pop to a meeting now and again - she does this for my grans' sake.. the contact was from my aunt and uncle (he's an elder) these were the 2 witnesses used against me in my judicial case.
they contacted my aunt and said to forward the message onto us.

Quote him back this scripture:
2 Cor. 12:14--"for the children ought not to lay up for [their] parents, but the parents for [their] children."
Perhaps if gran would have planned and saved more carefully for her retirement, she could afford the nicer nursing home where her "friends" have moved. But clearly, she listened to and gave her money to false prophets that promised that she would never grow old before the end of "this system". It must be humiliating for her to have to come begging for money from her family that she's shunned for 8 years. Perhaps if she begged for charity from those friends that she misses so much, they could scrap together the money for her to move over there with them.

missing the JWD glory days
by fresh prince of ohio indon't get me wrong, this forum currently has plenty of interesting discussions and posters, but, for those of you who weren't on the old jwd board in the early-to-mid-00s, man...i'm sorry but you really missed out on the glory years of this forum.
it was really a special, unique place then.
again, not dissing the current, but, that huge exciting wave of ex-jw internet activity that occurred in the early part of this century seems to have leveled off.

@ tal
Maybe this is a reference to the era of Trevorgate. (Now I hope that some misfortune doesn't befall me for mentioning that name.) I arrived at the board shortly after that all happened.

Circuit Overseer sign up sheet
by A question ineveryone knows that people sign up to have the co over for lunch wed. through fri. but in your area, did they (even privately, outside of a sign up sheet) also invite him over sometimes for dinner as well, at all?
is this something that varies by co?.
-
Billy the Ex-Bethelite
sir82 nailed it. Some were likable and got lots of invites. Others were avoided like the plague.
This reminded me of a CO visit not long before I stopped attending. He was actually a nice guy and he invited me out to lunch and asked me to choose a place where we could talk in private. I thought he was going to try to "encourage" me because of my low hours. Instead, he asked me for advice and he did indeed insist on paying the bill. He was really unhappy as a CO, but had been on the road for long enough at that point that he just didn't know what else to do. To make a long conversation into a story short, he took my advice. He found a job and left the circuit work within about 5 months of our conversation.

Why Do Christians today need a "governing body" of elders to be their spiritual "teacher"?
by I_love_Jeff in...........and to provide direction for their lives?.
since the bible reports that jehovah led first-century christians individually through instruction directly from the holy spirit, with no accountability to a "governing body" in jerusalem, why do christians today need a "governing body" of elders?.
here are some examples of non governing body activitiy:.

The response actually reinforces the exact point that you were making.
Moses - An appointed man who proved his appointment BY MIRACLES! He was a singular leader that was succeeded by Joshua, but there was no "body" or formal line of succession. So, no "governing body", but appointment proven by MIRACLES.
Judges - Not a collective "governing body". They were a hodge-podge of military leaders of the tribes that didn't really serve as "spiritual guides". During that era, spiritual leadership came from the Levitical priests, so if there was a "governing body" it would have been the chief priests and not the judges.
Prophets like Jeremiah, Daniel, and Amos - During those times, the actual "governing body" that would have been in place for the "spiritual guidance" of Israel was the priesthood and the kingship. None of the prophets ever spoke about attending "governing body meetings".
Korah - Well, if you want to choose that example, remember that Korah was speaking against a leader that had proven his appointment by numerous physical miracles and had led the nation through amazing military victories. That is very, very different from the prophets who spoke against the kings, priests, and false prophets who claimed to speak for God, but provided none of the miracles or any evidence that they were from God. It was always very easy for the kings and priests to point out their royal lineage from David or Aaron, explaining how they were the "governing body" appointed by God. No. Instead, it was the individual prophets that were no part of any formal "governing clergy" that were used to declare the judgments of God.
Phillip never mentioned a "governing body", never did any of the other Christian writers. Paul made the structure plain when he said that the head of the man is Christ. No "governing body" mentioned there that would come between Christians and Christ!
"You may want to actually read the Bible for yourself instead of repeating lies your preacher told you."
Actually, this guy needs to acquaint himself with WT publications before he says crap like that. I think it's in Insight under the entry for "Synagogue" that the official explanation is that the WT Governing Body is patterned after the Jewish Sanhedrin. When this guy says that the GB is patterned after Moses, the judges, and the prophets, he's just pulling this out of his a$s. They were nothing at all like the WT GB. In fact, the GB is structured more directly after the clergy of Christendom. The GB is simply a combination of the Catholic Pope and top Cardinals, but without the 2000 year history, robes, hats, art, and extensive real estate.

Some odd developments
by dissonance_resolved inso things are not making sense at all here in my fade.
as i had posted earlier, i had a long intense talk the other night with my husband where i thought it was crystal clear just where i'm at right now with the wtbts.
then, the same week, he's not feeling well and asks me to take the kids to the mid-week meeting.
-
Billy the Ex-Bethelite
DR: Remember, none of this is scripted, so expect the unexpected.
In the case of your husband, if he wasn't feeling well, maybe he was just hoping to get the kids out of the house. And despite what WT says about women being the weaker sex and emotionally fragile, let's be honest, men can be big babies and emotionally clueless. So, just like the kids, you may have to tell him things several times before he "gets it."
In the case of your parents, you have to realize that it's part of the JW programming that they must check on you if you miss a meeting. Because the only valid reasons to miss a meeting are if someone is near death. If they didn't ask, chances are that they are getting tired of asking and getting excuses. They heard your voice on the phone and you didn't volunteer any information that anything was "wrong", so in this case their reaction is practically normal rather than the usual "you missed a meeting interrogation".
What will happen tomorrow or next week is hard to figure. Like I said, none of this is scripted. If you were to continue as a WT drone, you're lines would be written for the role that you are supposed to play. But now that you decide to no longer play your role as a mindless sheeple, it leaves the JWs around you trying to figure out what lines they're supposed to be speaking.
